Getting butane lighter fuel
Most of the lighters people use every day are powered by butane lighter fuel. This is only one type of lighter fuel. There are the lighter brands such as Zippo which use charcoal lighter fluid. This is a flammable liquid fuel burns up slowly but gives instant flames. If you want to refill your lighter, first you need to know what type of a lighter it is. That’s why we will go over the two types and establish which ones need butane lighter fuel, and which need flammable fluid. There won’t be any confusion because basically the first is pressurized gas and the second is liquid. Nevertheless, we will cover them both.
Categorization of lighters
There are more than one classification by which lighters are divided. There is a classification if they are disposable or not, or if they use a wick (wick lighters) but what we are interested in is dividing them by the fuel supply they have. As we mentioned earlier, some of them are using butane lighter fuel while others use flammable fluid. There are some pros and cons for both types, but we will go over them later in this article.
Disposable lighters use butane lighter fuel
The first types of lighters using butane lighter fuel are disposable lighters. They are most commonly used around the world. They are called disposable because they are very cheap to buy. The butane lighter fuel contained in them isn’t expensive as well. It is a common practice for a person to buy a disposable lighter, use it until it’s empty and just dispose of it and buy a new one. Due to their low price, it doesn’t pay off to actually refill them with butane lighter fuel, so the easiest is to just get a new one. The advantage of this approach is that whenever your lighter runs out, you can just go to the nearest store and buy a new one. The disadvantage is that you can’t keep a lighter you want more time than the predefined, since most of these lighters don’t have the ability to be refilled.
Bugatti lighter and Colibri use butane lighters fuel
Another type are butane lighters which are marked as exclusive because of the effort put into them. Some of the more famous exclusive butane lighters are the Bugatti lighter and Colibri. There lighters can be refilled with butane lighter fuel, because there is no point spending that much money on a lighter that you can only use for a short period of time.
Lighters that don’t use butane lighters fuel
The only type of lighters which don’t use butane lighter fuel are the wick lighters. They are powered by flammable fluid which is used to refill them. The most famous brand of these types of lighters is Zippo. The Zippo lighters have built a brand around their wind-proof lighters. Because they are using a special flammable fluid their flame isn’t extinguished even if you are outdoors and the wind is blowing. However, the butane lighter fuel is a lot cheaper and still very effective.
There are a lot of types of lighters out there, but numbers indicate that most of them are, in fact using butane lighter fuel as their supply.
